👩🍳 Instructions
-
1
Finely chop the fresh broccoli florets until they resemble small rice-sized pieces. If using frozen, thaw completely and press out all excess moisture using a clean kitchen towel.
-
2
In a large mixing bowl, combine the finely chopped broccoli, shredded sharp cheddar cheese, egg, almond flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
-
3
Mix well with your hands or a sturdy spoon until all ingredients are thoroughly combined and the mixture can hold its shape when pressed.
-
4
Take about 1 tablespoon of the mixture for each tot and form into small, round or cylindrical shapes. Press them firmly to ensure they hold together.
-
5
Heat the avocado or olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is shimmering, carefully place the broccoli cheese tots into the pan, ensuring not to overcrowd the skillet.
-
6
Cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy on all sides. Adjust heat as needed to prevent burning.
-
7
Once cooked, transfer the crispy tots to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Serve immediately with your favorite low-carb dipping sauce.
-
8
Alternatively, to bake: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Place formed tots on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and cooked through.
💡 Notes
Ensure broccoli is very finely chopped and any excess moisture is removed, especially if using frozen, to achieve the best crispy texture. For spicier tots, add a pinch of red pepper flakes. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days and reheated in an air fryer or oven for best results.
